a shelf to sit on

Having low shelving that is accessible to your kids can be a challenge, especially when space is limited. So having multi-functional horizontal shelving not only keeps things off the floor, but it also creates a seating area.

I found this fabulous picture on Queen of Organizing Jen’s website, and it got me thinking!

It’s a great space saver – add some boxes or crates underneath to maximize the storage space like this pretty little unit from Magnolia Lane.

Or even better: make the bench out of crates like A First Grade Journey.

If used individually, they make great versatile little seats as well. These cute ones are from Milk Crate Digest.

A simply constructed bench like this one from Apartment Therapy is great for storing books – AND TOYS!
