Back to Black

I am recently finding myself being drawn to darker hues more and more. Something about the way it gives incredible depth to a space and offsets art so beautifully intrigues me. From dark and moody walls to fire-place surrounds, black, mid-night blue, charcoal and dark chocolate is about making a statement. Feature image via

bedrooms-cool-boys-bedroom-interior-design-idea-with-black-wall-and-red-cabinets-boys-bedroomsThis boy’s room with its midnight blue walls and shiny red lockers is amazing. Even though this is not a very big space and the ceiling is at a standard height, the dark colour makes the room cosy and comfortable instead of claustrophobic as one might expect. Via

amazing-black-blue-kids-bedroom-interior-with-small-study-table-and-teddy-bear-with-fabric-decoration-in-ceilingAnother beautiful kids’ bedroom where the walls and floor are done in a seamless pale blue with the ceiling and furniture in deep charcoal. Because the ceiling is so high, it works extremely well in a dark colour. Via Legalizelovebug.

black-interior-design-ideas-24A perfect example of why the classic black&white combination is classic: cause it just works! And when you throw in an accent colour {like the red flowers} it creates the most amazing background against which to pop. By Elle Decor via Shelterness.

The striped effect can be achieved either with paint or by using different thicknesses of duct tape. See my Washi-tape post for some more tape-inspiration!

traditional-black-and-white-bedroomA dramatic boudoir via Iroonie. I love how the black and white pictures and sketches above  the bed looks like they are lit because they are against a dark background. And if you are afraid that it will make the room too dark, add oversized mirrors like the ones above the chests of drawers.
