Project Playroom Phase 1: The Chalk Board

A friend gave my little boy a tub of Cottoncandi paint for his birthday, and OH MY GOODNESS – I LOVE IT!

It applies to almost any surface, comes in black and 5 awesome colours, and is super easy to work with. I just had to figure out what to paint first!

I inherited a chalk board from the 1970’s (my husband grew up with it) and decided that it would be the perfect project.

I first cleaned it up with some soap and water, and then gave it a light sanding – I had some help!

I masked the board with tape and newspaper, and brushed on 3 coats of Wondaseal Stain&Seal in Fresh White with a sponge.

Once it dried, I masked the painted frame with tape, and stuck a cardboard star stencil (click HERE for template) in place with some folded over masking tape.

The star took some very careful wiping with the sponge so that the paint doesn’t go under it, but it was worth it!

Then I finished up the rest of board in 3 coats of CottonCandi Cherry Red, waiting for it to dry between coats, and that’s it – a whole new drawing board!

CottonCandi paints is availble online from CottonCandi.co.za, or you can have a look at their supplier’s list.
