Madiba.

Combined with everyone’s sincere concern over the ailing former president’s health, we are today enthusiastically celebrating our 67 minutes of selflessness.Mandela Day was instituted in 2009 on the 18th of July to give people the opportunity to dedicate 67 minutes of their time in honour of Mr Mandela’s 67 years of fighting for the rights of humanity.

I’ve decided that with the boys’ birthdays being over and done now, the time has come to sort out the playroom and give Jean the chance to give away his toys. The little boy surprised me with his generosity, giving away his favourite tractor and wagon as well as some soft toys and games. We spent a bit more than 67 minutes, but afterwards we ended up with 2 large refuse bags filled with toys, nappies, blankets and some clothes to give to a local foster home.

I hope that this day will bring hope and joy to those in need, and a much needed lifting of the spirits for our Madiba on his 95th birthday.
